Camlock couplers (also called cam and groove fittings) provide a secure, quick-connect solution for hoses and piping without needing tools. They are commonly used in irrigation, agriculture, and fluid transfer systems.
Basic Connection: Male & Female Camlocks
Camlocks are used in matching pairs:
- Female camlock: Has two cam arms (levers) on the sides.
- Male camlock: Has a grooved lip that fits into the female coupler.
To connect:
- Insert the male camlock into the female camlock.
- Push the arms on the female side down to lock them over the lip of the male fitting.
This creates a tight, secure connection without twisting or threading. This is especially useful when hoses are already attached and difficult to rotate.
Common Camlock Types & Their Uses
Types C & E – Hose Connections
Types C and E are designed for hose connections:
- Both have a hose insert (hose shank) that fits inside Layflat or Oval hose.
- The hose is secured to the insert with a hose clamp.
Types A, B, D & F – Threaded Connections
Types A, B, D and F have threads on one side:
- These threads allow them to connect to pumps, filters, valves or any other pipe thread connection.
- They are commonly used as adapters between threaded equipment and camlock hose connections.
Types DP & DC – Plugs & Caps
Types DP and DC are used to close off open camlock ends:
- DP: Male plug that fits into a female camlock.
- DC: Female cap that fits over a male camlock.
These are ideal for temporarily sealing lines, preventing leaks, or keeping dirt and debris out when the system is not in use.
Poly vs. Aluminum Camlocks (Pressure Guidelines)
- Poly (polypropylene) camlocks: Best for low-pressure applications, typically under 40 PSI.
- Aluminum camlocks: Recommended when system pressure is over 40 PSI.
Always verify your system pressure and select the appropriate camlock material for safe and reliable operation.
